Kitchen chemistry

Run time: 12.30 – 13.30

It’s not just Heston Blumenthal that could easily translate his work from the kitchen to a chemistry lab. In fact, many chefs hold a lot of the same skills as scientists.

Chemistry is all around us, from the materials we use to the food we eat and many of the household items we use in our day to day lives are examples of chemistry and chemicals.

Stephen Ashworth from the University of East Anglia (aka the Kitchen Chemist) will talk about the development of his Kitchen Chemistry science show, which uses readily available chemicals and unsophisticated equipment to illustrate basic chemical principles.
