Voyager at 50: How to talk to aliens

Run time: 15.00 – 16.00

If you met an alien, how would you tell them about life on Earth if you don’t have a way to communicate?
Join Hannah Little (University of Liverpool) to find out about her research into the beginnings of human language and how this might help us in the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
Nearly 50 years ago, Voyager 1 launched into space carrying the Golden Record, a phonograph containing sounds and images chosen to reflect life on our planet. Voyager 1 continues to explore the solar system, with the Golden Record still on board in case there’s anybody out there.
Inspired by the Golden Record and imagined extraterrestrial encounters, Hannah will explore how we might design a communication system that would allow us to talk to aliens.
