Universal secrets: Unpacking particle physics
Run time: 14.00 – 15.00
Curious about the world’s smallest building blocks? Want to know the difference between muons and neutrinos? Desperate to delve into dark matter?
This panel discussion and Q&A will demystify the world of particle physics and uncover the things we still don’t know about our universe. This is your chance to quiz some of the world's leading particle physicists: Graziano Venanzoni (University of Liverpool), Saskia Charity (University of Liverpool), Mark Thomson (CERN) and Jocelyn Monroe (University of Oxford).
Find out about fascinating particle physics projects including the Muon g-2 experiment, the Darkside-20k experiment, and the Large Hadron Collider.
Chaired by Anthony Hollander (University of Liverpool), the panel will discuss the international collaboration needed for such projects, the puzzles these experiments leave us with, and what’s coming next.
This panel will be accompanied by a showcase of particle detector equipment- Universal secrets: particle detectors- in the Yoko Ono atrium from 12.00 – 17.00 on Thursday 11 September.
