The ins and outs of school admissions

Run time: 13.30 – 14.30
How do you choose a school for your kids? Are in-demand school places affecting rents and house prices where you live?

Join a talk with economics lecturer Ellen Greaves (University of Exeter) as she delves into the complexities of school admissions and explores options for change.

Ellen will reflect on research into how families decide on a school, and who schools choose to admit, asking whether the way places are allocated is fair.

Focusing on secondary schools in England, she’ll investigate how school catchment areas can affect the wider community, from pushing up property prices to pushing some people out.

You’ll be invited to think about what a fair school admissions system would look like, considering examples and deciding what feels right in each case.
