Medicinal and mindful: Liverpool’s botany of today
Run time: 11.00 – 12.00
Discover cutting edge plant research used in drug discovery!
Using a microscope, you’ll zoom in to the unimaginably tiny cell structures of plants. You’ll then test conduct your own chemical reaction, using colour changing agents to identify the medicinal properties of leaves.
Wild plants often go unnoticed and unappreciated today. This workshop is part of a series of events that will encourage you to think about the species growing around you, what you might learn from them and the importance of protecting and preserving plants against the effects of climate change.
The workshops will be hosted by Mindful Garden; a collaboration between researchers across Liverpool John Moores University. The Mindful Garden explores the medicinal properties of plants, digs into pharmaceutical drug discovery, and unearths the legacy of William Roscoe’s botanical collection.
Please note that this event involves plants that are safe to handle but may not be suitable to those with any plant allergies. The activity may be messy and could stain clothes – disposal aprons will be provided.
