Losing touch

Run time: 18.00 – 21.30

Our senses are more than skin deep.
Journey through the somatosensory system – a network of nerves that enables us to feel things like pressure, pain, temperature and movement– and find out what happens when it gets disrupted.
Neuroscientists (Liverpool John Moores University and University of Liverpool) and engineers (University of Southampton and University of Salford) will demonstrate the challenges people face when their somatosensory system stops working. They’ll explain why ongoing study into conditions like chronic pain, stroke and limb amputation is crucial.
Using illusions and prosthetics, this interactive experience invites you to explore how it feels to move without touch or haptic feedback.

This event is part of the British Science Festival takeover of Quirky Quarter, an evening of activities and performances that will encourage you to see the world from a whole new perspective! Book your free entry to Quirky Quarter here
