Giving voice to refugee stories
Run time: 12.00 – 13.00
Join a panel discussion exploring the therapeutic power of zine making. Find out how powerful creativity can be for building research projects and communities.
The speakers will talk about a collaborative, creative research project that used zine making as a way for women refugees in Liverpool to share their stories. Discover how zines were used to amplify and uplift the women’s voices, and to challenge how people seeking asylum are often represented in mainstream media.
The discussion will include contributions from community members, artist Jean McEwan, Ewan Roberts (Asylum Link Merseyside), and researchers Helen Stalford and Gayle Brewer (University of Liverpool).
This discussion will be followed by a drop in craft session, where you'll be invited to create your own zine. More information here- The superpower of zines!
Please note that this event may involve discussions of war, trauma and refugee experiences.
