Flood, sweat and tears

Run time: 17:00 – 18:00
With the recent surge in severe storm and flood events across the UK, and current drainage and coastal defence systems failing, there’s no denying that we need to adapt to our changing climate.
Our usual responses to natural disasters are developed and driven by policy makers and politicians who are often detached from the situation. Instead, Ravindra Jayaratne from the University of East London, along with collaborators from University College London, Japanese Universities and several London Borough Councils, are taking a novel interdisciplinary approach, learning from research done with Japanese schoolchildren.
