Expect the unexpected
Run time: 13.30 – 14.30
The world is unpredictable – how do we make better decisions about the future?
Join Kit Yates (University of Bath) for a talk about the science of prediction and the challenges of forecasting future events.
Kit will explore why we struggle to predict what’s going to happen next – whether that’s to do with personal finances or pandemics.
He’ll reflect on the randomness of everyday life, showing how we often assume things will happen in a linear way, even though reality follows nonlinear patterns.
Kit will argue that we all need to improve our understanding of probability and nonlinearity, so we can problem solve and make better-informed decisions, including about climate change and global health.
Join him to learn how to expect the unexpected.
