Disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline

Run time: 15.30 – 16.30

How does being excluded from school affect your future?

The impact can be significant for the child and the wider community: pupils excluded by the time they’re 12 are four times more likely than other children to spend time in prison as adults.

Join a panel discussion chaired by Ellen Greaves (University of Exeter) debating the ‘school-to-prison pipeline’ and how to disrupt it.
We’ll discuss how to achieve better outcomes for young people and schools, and what we can learn from interventions like ‘nurture units’ in Glasgow, which have dramatically reduced exclusion rates in the city.

Speakers will include Karen Graham (City St George’s, University of London), Cecilia Cappel (Spark Inside), and a young person with lived experience of the system.

There’ll be a chance to ask questions during a Q&A.
