Find out about:

Festival Accessibility

We endeavour to be a Festival that everyone can enjoy and aim to provide as many details as possible to help you plan your visit.

Together with neurodivergent families, we have created a sensory map of Exeter for this year’s British Science Festival. The map explores quieter and more stimulating routes across our city, linking sites of sensory interest with the British Science Festival venues: Exeter Phoenix, Exeter Cathedral, and the University of Exeter. Find out more here.

Event accessibility

As of the latest update of this page, the majority of our events are wheelchair accessible, except for a small number of activities. This is clearly outlined in the event description. If you are interested in attending one of these events, please email us to discuss the details of the activity.

Please refer to each venue description below for an overview of its accessibility features.

Accessible travel

Blue Badge holders can park for free in all City Council car parks, except for the Premium.

There is a limited number of disabled parking bays for Blue Badge holders on the University of Exeter Campus. Please email us at [email protected] for more details and to book a space.

Shopmobility in Princesshay, Exeter City Centre, hires out wheelchairs and motorised scooters to residents and visitors in Exeter. Free parking for Shopmobility users is available on level three of the Princesshay Car Park. Please visit ExeAccess for more details.

To find information about National Rail facilities and services for disabled passengers, please telephone 08457 484950 (0845 6050600 text phone only). For additional advice on disabled travel, visit the National Rail Passenger Assistance pages.

Toilets

All of the University of Exeter Streatham Campus buildings have accessible toilets.

Assessible toilets are available at Guildhall Shopping Centre and Exeter Phoenix. Please see the respective listings below for more details.

There are also a number of public toilets that have accessible facilities, which are open from 7am-7pm in the city centre.

Help at the Festival

Please feel free to speak to one of our Festival Assistants while at the festival. They will be happy to answer your questions, provide directions, and give you more information about each venue’s facilities.

If you wish to, you are welcome to pick up a Sunflower Lanyard from one of our Info Desks during their opening hours. It will discreetly indicate to the Festival Assistants across our events that you may need additional support or a little more time.

If you need some time to yourself at any point during the Festival, you can head to our Multi-faith Prayer & Quiet Rooms, located at the below locations while events are taking place:

  • The Forum, University of Exeter Campus on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 September, 10.00 – 19.00
