The Winchcombe meteorite

17 September 2022 - 14:00

Highcross Leicester, Lower East Mall opposite Footlocker

Event duration: 60 minutes

At 10pm on 28 February 2021 a fireball was seen blazing across the sky in the UK. The next morning, meteorites were discovered on a driveway in the town of Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.

The Winchcombe meteorite is the first to be recovered in the UK for 30 years, and the first ever carbonaceous chondrite. These rare meteorites contain solid materials, water, and carbon that are older than the Earth itself.

Come and hear the story of how the Winchcombe meteorite was found and is now being used to answer the secrets of our solar system.

This talk is part of our Saturday City Centre takeover
