Sex, shame and stigma

15 September 2022 - 19:30

Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, Leicester

Event duration: 60 minutes

Kate Lister runs the Whores of Yore project and documents the history of human sexuality and challenges notions of shame.

More people are talking about sex and being sex-positive, but a lot of stigma persists, even for the people researching sex. People doing sex-related work are often still marginalised and suffer discrimination, such as disparaging jokes and assumptions being made about their own sex lives.

Kate (Leeds Trinity University) shares her experiences of being a sex historian, the stigma that comes with it and how we can work towards a more sex positive future.

This talk is part of our Leicester Museum and Art Gallery Takeover event.
