Plastics: villain or vanillin?
14 September 2022 - 13:00
Vijay Patel Building, Lecture Theatre 4.05, De Montfort Uni

Event duration: 60 minutes
For many years the synthetic molecule vanillin has had one function; to provide the vanilla flavour we enjoy in products like ice cream and soft drinks. So, what if we told you it could also play a part in tackling the plastic waste crisis?
Join Joanna Sadler from the University of Edinburgh for her Environmental Sciences Award Lecture. In it she will share her research using enzymes and microbes to break down plastics and produce this synthetic flavouring, recycling otherwise redundant waste into delicious flavours.
