Mind-bending body illusions
15 September 2022 - 18:00
Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, Leicester

This is a drop-in event, there is no need to book.
Event running times: 18:00-22:00
Immerse yourself in the weird and wonderful world of illusions. Melting hands, extra digits and seeing and feeling the impossible are all yours to discover.
You might not actually know your body as well as you think you do. Our perception of it is built from sensory signals that mean it can feel very different to how it appears from the outside.
If we change those sensory signals, we can change how the body feels, to the extent that it can appear as if your finger is growing longer or that your entire arm has disappeared.
Researchers from Loughborough and other Midlands Universities invite you to let illusions challenge your beliefs. Step inside and experience how these illusions can inform our understanding of the mind’s perception of our body, providing practical research to help people in the real world.
This drop-in activity is part of our Leicester Museum and Art Gallery Takeover event.
