Driverless cars: Predicting the unpredictable
14 September 2022 - 11:00
Queen's Building, Lecture Theatre 1.10, De Montfort University

Event duration: 60 minutes
Driverless cars could be in full use on Britain's roads in the not-so-distant future, but many have questioned their safety. Although such machines can be programmed to predict certain situations, how can we prepare them for the relative unpredictability of humans?
University of Leeds’s Yee Mun Lee, researcher in human unpredictability and transport systems, looks at how human factors are being considered during the design of driverless vehicles.
With potentially wide-ranging societal consequences for towns and cities like Leicester, it is more important than ever to understand the work going into the safety of these quickly evolving technologies.
